My First Photo

This was taken during my first year at Edinboro before I ever took a photography class or really had any interest in doing so. I used a Sony Cybershot through the peephole in my dorm room and this is the result.

The Telemorphis Descent of a Rectangle*

*A shot of Rick from last semester.

I'll be taking some view camera shots for my 19th century and Victorian project tonight. This might sound strange and unrelated to the project, but it will be totally Sci-Fi influenced. I guess I'll just have to explain it more when the series is completed.

This afternoon in Asian Art & Pop Cinemas I will be watching When a Woman Ascends the Stairs, directed by Mikio Naruse in 1960. As far as I can tell, every movie in this class will be awesome. Last week was Wong Kar-Wai's Chungking Express, which I thought was great. Tony Leung was in it and I always think he does a great job.

Mondays...

I'm watching "The Adventure of Photography" in class right now. We'll see if it's any good.

4x5 View camera shots

"ForestFire/FireSale.1983"
"Rick Hits Warp Drive/First Images From Mars Rover"
"Seth Ernst and a Bike, 3 Views from Edinboro Lake"

So I stayed up late shooting, developing and scanning these shots I took with one of the school's Omega 45d view cameras, and then I woke up early today to finish touch ups and printing. This was all in an effort to submit them by 1pm today for the 6x6x6 mini show that opens in Bates Gallery tomorrow.

Needless to say, I'm not submitting anything because 3/4 printers in this lab haven't had proper drivers installed since these iMacs were reformatted, and the other one left gouges on all my prints and refused to print black and gray, leaving me with green and blue tinted, scratched prints. AWESOME!! This is what $200 of lab fees gets me.

*interesting note: those frames are about a foot away from each other

And then it dawned on me...

I don't think I've seen you before.

The sun, as it rises, such a stranger to me. Except the other day when I was walking home from a very long night and the morning was just beginning. So I took my camera out and looked toward my mailbox. Longing for 8 1/2 to arrive from GreenCine.

First Post/welcoming myself to the internets

This blog's main purpose is to track progress over the course of my last semester (hopefully) as a photography student at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, the bane of my existance.

My newly found motivation to exit the American education system a.s.a.p. has driven me to new levels of productivity I had previously thought impossible.

Hopefully, this is the first of many frequent posts.

Good job, Mike Burch. Welcome to the internets!
